DRAFT Mission Statement

(revised per March 27 meeting)

The Committee will develop a Conservation and Open Space Plan with recommendations
and priorities for preservation and enhancement of resources which strike the proper balance
between landowner rights and the public good.

This Plan will include:

• Consideration of Natural Resources and Wildlife Habitat; Historic & Cultural
  Resources; Open Space, Scenic, Trail & Recreation Opportunities; Soil and Water
  Resources; Lake & River Public Access; Farming and Forestry; Growth Management
• Inventory, Analysis, Maps and Prioritization of identified resources
• Education and public outreach to solicit input to identify resources and input into the
  Plan’s priorities and recommendations
• Exploration of funding, protection, and management mechanisms which may be
  accomplished through landowner incentives, acquisition from willing sellers, and
  ordinances and regulations.
