A Resolution in Support of
CHARTING MAINE’S FUTURE
the GrowSmart Maine/Brookings Plan
for Sustainable Prosperity and Quality Places

Charting Maine’s Future – An Action Plan for Promoting Sustainable Prosperity and Quality Places has struck a responsive chord with us because it says that:

• Maine has a bright future if we work together to build on our strengths and make strategic investments;
• Maine’s “brand” of livable communities, beautiful scenery, and desirable recreational opportunities is one of our greatest competitive assets;
• Maine's ingenuity and resourcefulness are core strengths as we transition to a new innovation-based economy of tomorrow; and
• Maine’s tax structure, government efficiency, a patchwork of regulations that increase housing costs and inhibit the redevelopment of our cities and towns, and sprawling suburban development are challenges that must be addressed to ensure future prosperity.

Therefore, ___________________________________  supports the work of GrowSmart Maine and its goal of engaging Maine people to help implement the recommendations of ‘Charting Maine’s Future.’.

Those recommendations include calls to:

• Streamline state government and K-12 administration, to free up resources for critical investments in the economy and to lower taxes;
• Invest in research and development, and in products and business networks that help build an innovation focused, high value economy;
• Invest in rebuilding our town centers, and preserving farms, forestlands, and open space;
• Adopt incentives to encourage regional collaboration in local service delivery and planning;
• Provide technical and financial support for local planning and implementation.
