Coming to The County

Our Field Team will be in the St. John Valley next Tuesday, with our President and CEO Alan Caron speaking at a business breakfast at the University of Maine Fort Kent in the morning and our regional Town Meeting in Frenchville in the evening.

The Bangor Daily News had a good article on Monday about the area’s recent surge in economic growth: read it here.

We’ll also be in Presque Isle for another Regional Town Meeting at the University of Maine Presque Isle’s Campus Center on Monday April 2: learn more at our events web page.

Context Sensitive Solutions: A Public Forum

The transportation system is one of the most important shapers of neighborhood sustainability. Join Fred Kent of the Project for Public Spaces for a discussion on how the adopting the concepts of Placemaking and Context Sensitive Solutions can leverage transportation solutions to create broader positive change in communities. The event, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Portland Area Comprehensive Transportation Committee and the Maine Department of Transportation.

The event takes place on March 29, 2007, from 7-9 PM at Hannaford Hall on USM’s Portland Campus (click here for directions).

Hello world!

Hi there.

So this is our new blog. This will be a place where we’ll post late-breaking news and updates that GrowSmart Maine members and fans might be interested in. That might include smart growth news articles from Maine newspapers, updates on our activities in the Legislature, reports from our field staff, and announcements of conferences and workshops. We’ll update it often, so please check back frequently.

We’ll also use this blog to receive feedback, questions, and comments from our readers through the “comments” feature at the bottom of every post. We hope that this will become a forum where we can answer each others’ questions and share ideas about the Brookings report and other GrowSmart Maine initiatives.

Thanks for reading!
