GrowSmart Maine is a statewide non-profit citizens' organization working to promote sustainable prosperity and to protect the state's distinctive character and quality places.
GrowSmart
is working with
business, civic and
conservation
organizations on a major study of the relationship between unplanned growth and sprawl, the growing cost of government and our ability to create and attract tomorrow's jobs.
GrowSmart Maine is working to engage Maine people in protecting our quality of life and shaping a more prosperous and sustainable future. We regularly organize and participate in meetings and discussion around the state to help inform people about what they can do in their communities to manage growth and change.
A network of dedicated GrowSmart volunteers is constantly working to gather information about what other towns and states are doing that might be helpful here.
Controlling unplanned growth and sprawl starts at the local level with involved citizens but also involves advocating for important changes at the state level.
Many of Maine's smaller cities and towns are experiencing unplanned growth or sprawl but lack the resources and experience to manage that change in ways that protect the character of their community.
